Things to Do in Seattle in August 2026: Events, Festivals & Summer Fun

August is one of the best months to be in Seattle. The days are long, the weather is typically warm and dry, and the city takes full advantage of summer with festivals, outdoor movies, live music, cultural celebrations, and events along the water.

Seafair Weekend Festival

July 31–August 2, 2026 | Lake Washington & Genesee Park

August kicks off with one of Seattle’s biggest summer traditions: Seafair Weekend.

The three-day festival brings the Boeing Seafair Air Show, hydroplane racing, live entertainment, food, family activities, and thousands of spectators to the shores of Lake Washington. The 2026 festival runs from July 31 through August 2, with activities scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For many Seattle-area families, Seafair weekend is practically a summer holiday. Even if you don't attend the official festival, you'll find people gathering around Lake Washington to enjoy the action and celebrate one of the city's longest-running traditions.

Umoja Fest

August 1–2, 2026 | Judkins Park

Another Seattle tradition takes place during the first weekend of August.

Umoja Fest celebrates the city's African American community with music, food, art, vendors, family activities, and the Africatown Heritage Parade.

The 2026 festival takes place August 1–2 at Judkins Park and includes the Soul in the City and Afrobeats stages, a fashion show, food and artisan vendors, and a Children's/Teens Village. The Africatown Heritage Parade begins at 1 p.m. on August 1.

Seattle Center Festál

Seattle Center's Festál series is another reason to spend a summer weekend around the Space Needle. The year-round program celebrates the many cultures and communities that make up the Seattle region, and August includes several festivals.

Tibet Fest

August 8–9, 2026 | Seattle Center

Tibet Fest celebrates Tibetan culture through traditional and contemporary music, dance, art, food, and cultural programming.

The festival is part of Seattle Center's free Festál series and offers an opportunity to learn more about Tibetan traditions while enjoying a summer day at Seattle Center.

BrasilFest

August 16, 2026 | Seattle Center

Get ready for an afternoon filled with Brazilian music, dancing, food, and culture.

BrasilFest returns to Seattle Center on Sunday, August 16. The free festival includes Brazilian music and dance, capoeira, workshops, kids' activities, food, and exhibits throughout the Armory Food & Event Hall, Mural Amphitheatre, and Fisher Rooftop.

Festival Sundiata Presents Black Arts Fest

August 22–23, 2026 | Seattle Center

Seattle Center's cultural celebrations continue August 22–23 with Festival Sundiata Presents Black Arts Fest.

The festival is part of the 2026 Festál season, which features 25 free cultural festivals throughout the year.

Watch a Movie Under the Stars

One of the simplest ways to enjoy a Seattle summer evening is to grab a blanket, pack some snacks, and head outside for a movie.

Seattle's outdoor movie season continues throughout August, with screenings happening at parks around the city.

At Ballard Commons Park, the August schedule includes Galaxy Quest on August 12, The Lost Boys on August 19, and Despicable Me on August 26. Freeway Park is also hosting Friday-night screenings, including La La Land on August 14, Fame on August 21, and Beetlejuice on August 28.

Over on the Eastside, Movies at Marymoor continues at Marymoor Park with Top Gun: Maverick on August 12, The Incredibles on August 18, and The Princess Bride on August 26.

Dance 'Til Dusk

Want something a little more active?

Seattle's Dancing 'Til Dusk series brings free outdoor dancing to parks around the city. August events include everything from West Coast Swing and blues to retro Americana and Cajun and Zydeco music.

Upcoming dates include events at Ballard Commons Park, South Lake Union Park, Volunteer Park, and other Seattle parks throughout August.

Seafair Summer Music Series

August 25, 2026 | Lake Union

For a uniquely Seattle summer experience, take the music onto the water.

The Seafair Summer Music Series returns to Lake Union on August 25 with The Redwood Twins. Guests board the Trek Ferry for an evening cruise featuring live folk and Americana music while sailing around Lake Union and Lake Washington.

The August event also coincides with Duck Dodge's LED Night, when colorful sailboats take over Lake Union. Boarding begins at 6 p.m., with the cruise running approximately 6:30–8:30 p.m.

Spend a Summer Day on the Seattle Waterfront

You don't necessarily need a scheduled event to enjoy August in Seattle.

The transformed Seattle waterfront has become one of the city's best places for a summer afternoon. Walk along Elliott Bay, explore Waterfront Park, stop at Pike Place Market, visit the Seattle Aquarium, or simply find a spot to take in views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.
